Another Bonus Point Win

Journeying up the valley on a lovely but cold Saturday it was great to see the snow capped peaks of the beacons in the distance and hoping the most scenic ground in Welsh Rugby wouldn't inspire our visitors Glyncorrwg. The spring sunshine soon vanished as we warmed up in a quick hail/snow/rain shower and the big fellas Kelv and Beans put the frightners on the coaches and myself by both aggravating ankle injuries, thankfully both manned up leaving Nelly to enjoy his double pie and chips instead of warming up. Glyncorrwg have been struggling of late but showed that they would be strong up front as usual and we would have to earn the right to play the Aber way and spin the ball out wide. Inspired by Maximus Doc and his pre match team talk we got out of the blocks quicker than Usain Bolt running for chicken nuggets and from the first scrum went wide despite some shooting defense that brought a whole new meaning to blitzkrieg defense. Doc saw off the onrushing defense and quick hands gave Jack Holland a clear run to the line and under the sticks for the opening try converted by Hodge. We kept up the pressure and Doc was once again to the fore as he crashed through the midfield and once again went over under the sticks Hodge converted and we were cruising. Glyncorrwg are a proud team though and using their big forwards fought their way into our 22 for a period of prolonged pressure, several times they kicked to touch rather than at goal but eventually settled for a well taken drop goal. Their big 5 fancied himself and to be fair was a big runner, however when Kelvan forced him back and onto his back he got a bit confused and told the big fella better luck next time fatty, Kelv normally a quiet assassin came back with the quote of the day "your the one on your back you daft @#%&". Once again we went downfield and after Cons and Irish dancer Jack had gone close superb hands put Adam Evs over in the corner for an unconverted try. The impressive Alex Dans then had a 10 minute rest for tackling as the ref must have thought the new no tackling law was already in. Despite this we got the bonus point try as the Goat crashed over for an unconverted try. With half time approaching we relaxed and Glyncorrwg fought back to score their first try well converted from the touchline for a ht score of Aber 24 Glyncorrwg 10.
Glyncorrwg again used their big forwards to good effect but belligerent defense by the Honey Badger Ding and Liam the leveler John saw the ball spilled and we were off quick hands gave Cellan Edwards 60 yards to run and he scorched over to turn the game back towards us. We were back on the attack straight away when Scones took the ko and went on the rampage after breaking several tackles he was desperately looking for support though and got dragged down by the cover. Glyncorrwg did manage to force their way back downfield and more pressure saw big hitting Owen Phillips sin binned for a hit off the ball. They forced their way over in the corner and looked to make a game of it but we didn't panic and despite losing Hodge to injury JD took over at 10 reminding the older generation Gareth Rees as he directed play and even found time to cause carnage with one rhinoceros type run. Once again we hitback from long range and superb hands put Adam Evz clear on the wing he evaded the cover and went under the sticks where he was hit late by a chasing winger a few handbags followed but after Doc's conversion we were penalised for Adams retaliation. It was getting a bit naughty and the Glyn hooker was lucky to escape after aiming a kick at the combative Shaver. Beans always up for a rumble was to the fore in our response and yet again our backs run riot to free the Goat and he not only scorched over but converted his effort to boot. By now Foxy was on replacing Tank who put in a fine shift up front and Pyart had brought the average up by replacing the honey badger. Cedric had also crept on and when yet again the backs escaped the defense he was on Jack Hollands shoulder to take a try scoring pass Jack put him in but Cedric still nearly cocked it up the try was awarded but a video ref might have had a better look at his effort. With the last throw of the dice i came on and enjoyed 5 minutes getting a late hit in my ribs which amused Scones if not me. Final score 48-15 a good win and 5 points but we still could improve and need to get training to brush up on our moves and skills.
Twat of the match was the pouting Pepsi and mom Goat beating off challenges from most of the backs and Ding and Scones. Apres match activities saw the Bellys leaving do with an army theme leaving the club looking like the beacons during SAS training week, though i doubt they would drink their drinks as poorly as Goat and Belly!!! No game next week as the Vets go on tour to Nam and will hopefully leave it in a position to hold the races the week after.
