After a night and early morning of torrential rain a late pitch inspection saw the visit of Bryncoch given the go ahead but the youth game v Taibach literally going under. With a heavy stick pitch what would we see would the backs by like Fred Astair in singing in the rain or would it be a game for the weather girls up front only time would tell. We started strongly and a fine run by Jack Holland led to him finally being taken out with the Goat free outside him. Hodge soon put a penalty across and despite us failing to sort out the kick off (something we would fail to do all game) he soon added another. Bryncoch then began to fight back often quite literally even mild mannered Kelvan becoming the most belligerent Ashby for a while at least! Doc was the next to lose it provoked after an incident involving the Goat to seek his own retribution and earn a yellow card for his efforts. In his absence fine last gasp tackles by Alex Williams and Jack stopped Bryncoch short before a daisy cutter of a penalty attempt allowed us to clear our lines. Getting back on top we were rewarded when the ever probing Cons took a quick tap and skated over the sodden surface without a finger been laid on him for a fine opportunist try, Hodge knocked over the conversion and a 13-0 half time score.
Straight from ko the impressive Foxy led the charge and a sleight of hand from JD that Dynamo would have been proud of put the Goat in the clear. Normally this means try time but the Gavin Henson lookalike full back stopped him inches short but JD had followed up and took the offload to crash over, Hodge again converted. Would we cut loose and go for the bonus point, no we wouldn't Bryncoch kept it tight and played most of the rst of the half in our 22. It was turning into a niggly affair and Bryncoch were benefiting from this and Alec Daniel getting his traditional yellow. They huffed and puffed with rolling mauls and forward surges but determined defense led by Scones and Beans among others kept them out. The Bryncoch scrum half who obviously had SAM syndrome began to take a disliking for Cons and after starting a bout of fisticuffs and having a warning he upped the stakes by taking Cons out off the ball. Another rumpus followed with the Bryncoch winger being very keen to get involved. The end result an early bath for Cons and the wing with the scrum half amazingly escaping scott free. The game ended with Adam Evz and Dewi breaking out before Shaver sold an audacious dummy and Ding and Tom Price had their own interchange to take us to the half way line before the move broke down and the ref blew up to end the game.
20-0 a good win that could have been better but both the pitch and dogged opponents bogged us down. Id make JD mom and the boys harshly voted Kelv twat for his running headbutt. I believe the footbslling term is to win ugly and despite a disappointing affair its another 4 points that never really looked in doubt.
