First Game of the Season

On the anniversary of last years no score bore draw we welcomed Ystradgynlais to Plas Y Ddol again on a tidy Halloween for running rugby. Ystrad to be fair turned up with numbers and Shakey graciously agreed that we could boost our squad with the three Cwmgors boys and the rugby whore Kyle Johnson meaning the old men of the team myself, Duncan and pyart could start on the bench much appreciated Mr Thomas! After Duncan had cleared the fox shit off the field and we observed a perfect minutes silence we were off. Straight from the KO Anj powered forward and Tunner threw a dummy and powered through the gap as we piled forward ystrad were forced to concede a penalty and Pepsi stepped up to score the first points of the game. Ystrad however stormed back into the game with Nathan Holsgrove running the show from 10 they began to take advantage of the rustiness in our backs by cowardly running around them and not trying to run over them as they were tackled every time they did this! Soon they scored a first try and despite getting more than parity up front where Anj and Foxy went well in their debuts up front alongside experienced veterans Nelly and John Fuge both of whom put in a good shift and nearly lasted the whole game! Anj had another barnstorming run putting Hywel on his arse in the process but we were struggling to use the ball at half back where Tunner reckoned Pepsi couldn't pass and Pepsi reckoned Tunner couldn't catch and the funny thing is they were both right!! Hywel got his revenge by running a try in and then got slammed as usual by tough tackling Sam Preece. The ystrad backs were looking sharp out wide and whilst the boys especially Kyran Brittain were tackling well they ran two more tries in before Pepsi slotted another penalty and narrowly fell short with a monster kick as he thought he was Paul Thorburn. Nelly who has usual was at the front of all the naughtiness in the game was making friends with the ystrad 15 and testing the patience of a young but very efficient ref. Indeed the ref was so young when he arrived Duncan told him the youth had left for their game and if he wanted him to ring any of them to come back and pick him up!! Ht Aber 6-Ystrad 26.
The forwards were still going well and with Brooksie ( who nearly didn't make it onto the pitch as he found a spider in his boots!!! Last game he told me he couldn't play because he was afraid to go into his shed where his kit bag was as he thought he had a rat in there!)and Cwmgors loanee Glen stealing lineout ball and the scrum going well we couldn't quite break through. Chip had gone to 10 as the experiment of playing Tunner there turned sour but he too caught the 10 disease and started dropping everything. The boys never stopped trying and despite being bumped off by the smallest bloke on the field Pepsi chased back to make an amazing try scoring tackle when everyone else had stopped to await the try being scored. Not only did he cover tackle on the line but he got up and took the ball with no one within 20 yards of him he took the ball forward before clearing it. Another massive clearance to touch by Ystrad came within an inch of taking out both of Brooksies kids but thankfully landed right by the side of them not on them as giving their old mans catching skills there is no way they would have caught it!! By now the tries had stopped flowing so regularly for ystrad but Chicken Wing did fall over the line from 2 yards and ystrad added another try despite the tough tackling of Dale Probert and Rhodri Pyart who came on as full back and immediately started bleeding from behind his ear as his tradition. Tunner too was tackling well now he was back in the pack but our best chance came when Glen stormed upfield before offloading to the rampaging Foxy who put Kyran Brittain free however Kyran couldn't quite hang on but he did do a cracking tackle on the ystrad wing to prevent him from getting the ball!! With time running out i came on ensuring we dominated the last scrum and no further scores were added ( so for me its still 0-0) making the final.score 36-6 to Ystrad.
Mom for his loose play tackling and carrying but not his passing was Pepsi and to be fair there were no twats as all the boys fought to the end though Nelly could have it at a push for acting rock as usual.
